- SK pinx to put KRW 100 million in supporting meals for the elderly in collaboration with Jeju United FC

SK affiliates operating in Jeju, including SK rent-a-car, are carrying out ‘Meal Sharing Ontact Project’ to help the poorly-fed elderly in Jeju Island, together with local governments.

The project is one of the social value creation campaigns launched by SK Group to resolve social problems. These include the growing undernourished population caused by the closure of free meal centers for the vulnerable during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, hardships of small businesses, and difficulties in operating welfare facilities.

SK rent-a-car held a ceremony for signing the 'Meal Sharing Ontact Project' at the Jeju Provincial Office on the 18th of March in the presence of officials from SK pinx and the Jeju provincial government. The signing ceremony was attended by 18 officials from six companies, including ▲SK rent-a-car CEO Hwang Il-moon ▲SK pinx CEO Kang Suk-hyun ▲ Jeju UTD FC director Kim Hyun-hee ▲ Jeju Provincial Office Governor Won Hee-ryong ▲ Jeju Island Senior Welfare Center director Hyu Wan (Monk) ▲ Seogwipo Senior Welfare Center director Kim Jae-kyung.

Based on the agreement, SK rent-a-car plans to spend a total of KRW 100 million donations on free meal support for 26 places such as senior welfare centers and social welfare centers within Jeju City and Seogwipo City by the end of the year, in collaboration with SK pinx and Jeju UTD FC. With this sponsorship, Jeju City Senior Welfare Center and Seogwipo City Senior Welfare Center will be able to improve the quality of free meals offered to some 2,300 senior citizens one to three times a week.

In addition, SK rent-a-car considers the additional provision of small EVs to Jeju Senior Welfare Center during the period of this agreement by utilizing its 'Mobility Bank*', the company’s social value creation project geared toward for small business owners, startups, and social enterprises. It will alleviate the burdens of driving vehicles on top of resolving safety issues that may occur during meal delivery.
*Mobility Bank is a win-win cooperation model in which vehicles are rented free of charge to small businesses and social enterprises having difficulties securing vehicles for economic reasons. Each company is supposed to carry out social value creating activities depending on their business nature in return for free rental. Since the first implementation in October 2018, new firms have been selected and operated every year, and a total of 67 companies are currently subject to this project as the third group.

SK rent-a-car continues its endeavors to grow together with Jeju region. Last year, the company purchased 60,000 bottles of Jeju Samdasoo and 80 tons of mandarins, a local produce from Jeju to share freely with their clients so that they can experience Jeju with the local specialties. Besides, it took part in the ‘Making Clean Jeju Sea Campaign for actively preserving Jeju’s natural environment by collecting coastal garbage.

This year, the company plans to purchase 85,000 masks from a manufacturer located in Jeju in order to gift one free package (4 sheets) to customers renting from the 25th of this month to the end of June. It aims not only to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but to coexist with local communities.

An SK rent-a-car official said, "we have come together with diverse stakeholders to give a hand the undernourished elderly in Jeju, who have more difficulties due to the COVID-19,” adding that it will make consistent efforts to coexist with local communities.
