SK rent-a-car, the largest short-term rental car business operator in Jeju Island, is introducing a unique charging space in Seogwipo so that customers can use electric cars without anxiety or inconvenience.

SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) held an event to celebrate the opening of 'ECO LOUNGE,' a new complex cultural space in Seogwipo, Jeju, on the 2nd of this month.

ECO LOUNGE (1166 Iljuseo-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do) is a place for EV users where they can enjoy both charging and resting. As the mobility service platform taking the lead in the domestic EV rental market, SK rent-a-car prepared this place to offer more opportunities for its customers to enjoy the EV experience. It will be built on a site of about 3,000m2 nearby Jungmun Tourism Complex in Seogwipo, which is scheduled to officially open on the 16th.

ECO LOUNGE provides an open EV charging facility that not only SK rent-a-car customers but also general visitors can enjoy. In collaboration with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), it is equipped with three 100kW fast chargers and two 7kW slow chargers embedded with V2G technology that can charge and discharge. Based on the number of visitors and charging demand, it plans to install additional 400kW ultra-fast chargers and operate them at about 1,000kW.

The premium roasting brand 'Terarosa' will enter to provide a resting space for visitors. It is a three-story cafe with a sophisticated interior where people can enjoy a variety of food and beverages, including its finest specialty coffee. Terarosa also introduced its first 'drive-through’ to enhance the convenience of visitors.

SK rent-a-car actively participates in Jeju Island's 'Carbon Free Island 2030 (CFI 2030)' policy, moving towards eco-friendly mobility for sustainable growth. To this end, it plans to convert all 3,000 short-term rental cars operated in Jeju to electric vehicles by 2025. It has already completed the conversion of 1,000 electric vehicles this year alone and announced to donate the entire subsidies worth KRW 900 million assisted from local governments for purchasing electric cars to the local community.

On top of ECO LOUNGE, 'Jeju EV Park (tentative name)' is scheduled to be opened in the second half of next year. It is an electric car rental complex with a 7,200kW charging infrastructure capable of operating 3,000 EVs. SK rent-a-car will make it a place of experience in which more than 1 million customers can use EVs of various brands.

An official from SK rent-a-car said, "we will contribute to creating an eco-friendly mobility culture beyond simply providing electric vehicles by establishing an infrastructure for various EV experiences." He also added that the company would expand the business around EVs to further realize sustainable growth.
